Assistant General Manager

Location: The Fool’s Lantern Wine & Tap Room – St. Michaels, MD
Job Type: Part-Time (Hours increase during peak season)
Compensation: $18/hour + pooled tips (total hourly equivalent of $20-$35/hour)

Job Summary:
The Fool’s Lantern is seeking a driven and passionate Assistant General Manager (AGM) to play a key leadership role in our dynamic wine and tap room. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves wine, beer, and exceptional hospitality. The AGM will be a hands-on leader, working closely with the owner to oversee daily operations, develop the team, and enhance our beverage program. Responsibilities:

  • Assist in hiring, training, and managing front- and back-of-house staff
  • Lead by example, fostering a positive and professional team culture
  • Oversee and enhance our beverage program, including sampling and selecting new wine, beer, and ready-to-drink (RTD) SKUs
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels of beer, wine, and RTD beverages
  • Develop and implement a staff training program focused on product knowledge, service excellence, and team collaboration
  • Manage scheduling to ensure efficient and cost-effective staffing
  • Work closely with guests to enhance their experience, address concerns, and build strong customer relationships
  • Plan and coordinate special events to drive revenue and community engagement
  • Monitor and control costs to maximize profitability
  • Ensure compliance with all food, alcohol, and safety regulations

Qualifications:

  • Prior management or supervisory experience in the restaurant, bar, or hospitality industry preferred
  • Strong knowledge of (or passion for learning about) wine, beer, and craft beverages
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong guest service and communication abilities
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on cost control and operational efficiency
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds
  • TIPS Alcohol Certification preferred or must be obtained within six months of employment
  • Own transportation required
